After becoming the first woman to be elected Speaker of the House in 2007, Nancy Pelosi is now the 52nd Speaker of the House of Representatives.

At a ceremony in Seneca Falls, New York, the birthplace of the American women’s rights movement, she was honored by being inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 2013.

Speaker Pelosi oversaw the creation and implementation of the American Rescue Plan during the Biden-Harris administration.

Hundreds of millions of Americans received vaccines, direct aid was given to families in need, millions of new jobs were created, teachers, police officers, firefighters, transit workers, and other front-line heroes were supported, and kids were allowed to return to school safely thanks to this life-saving legislation.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which is strengthening roads, bridges, ports, water systems, and broadband access in communities across the nation while reviving the American middle class, was also facilitated by Speaker Pelosi.

Speaker Pelosi oversaw the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act by the House in the 111th Congress, saving or creating millions of American jobs and saving the country from the worst of the financial crisis.

Her effort for passing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act contributed to restoring women’s legal ability to challenge pay discrimination and ensuring their inclusion in the economic recovery.

Pelosi also led Congress in passing the Dodd-Frank Act, which established the first-ever strong consumer, elder, and servicemembers protections.

At a young age, Nancy Pelosi started a career in politics. Thomas “Tommy” J. D’Alesandro Jr., her father, was a well-liked local politician from Baltimore, Maryland’s Little Italy area.

Her father was elected to the same U.S. House of Representatives just a year before Pelosi was born, and she would serve there for many years.
