Macbeth: Act 5, Scene 6 Full Summary | Macbeth: Act 5, Scene 6 Summary

Malcolm, Siward, Macduff, and their soldiers are close to Macbeth’s castle. Malcolm tells the soldiers that they are close enough to throw their tree branches down to let the people in the castle see what the soldiers truly are (a huge group of soldiers, not a moving forest).

Malcolm says his Uncle Siward and Malcolm’s cousin, Young Siward, should lead the first attack. According to the plan, Malcolm and Macduff will lead the second attack. Siward agrees.

He says he and his soldiers will meet Macbeth that night. Siward expects to win the fight and says he and his soldiers should be beaten (will earn their loss) if they cannot fight well enough to win.

Macduff says they should have all of their trumpets “speak” (make their sounds). Macduff says the trumpet sounds are “harbingers” (messengers) that bring the news of “blood and death.” Trumpet sounds fill the air. The soldiers move on.
